Slapstick comedy often features exaggerated physical humor and preposterous predicaments. If done well, this type of comedy thrives on timing and absurd situations. DCP Theatre's production of Moon Over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig delivers!

The story revolves around Charlotte and George Hay, a married couple and fading Broadway stars, looking to reclaim their former glory as they tour with their current theatre troupe. Heiki-Lara Nyce is hilarious as the frustrated and ambitious Charlotte, balancing humor with glimpses of vulnerability. Ms. Nyce is incredibly witty as she desperately tries to hold everything together amidst the absurdity. Dan Hornberger's portrayal of the impulsive George is engaging, reminding us that all humans are walking contradictions. His George is captivating yet deeply flawed, chaotic and passionate. Despite dramatic arguments and reconciliations, an undeniable bond exists between these two characters.

The talented cast is rounded out by strong supporting players. Holly Hillman is a standout as Charlotte's mother, the hard-of-hearing Ethel. Ms. Hillman is absolutely hilarious as her character misinterprets conversations with an endearing grumpiness and deadpan delivery. Her portrayal adds depth to the family dynamic.

Matt Mazza delivers a scene-stealing performance thoughout with his practical yet comical demeanor. Mr. Mazza's Paul is earnest and level-headed while being uproariously funny. His steadiness provides a wonderful contrast to the madness that occurs. Genee Foulkes plays Rosalind, the daughter of Charlotte and George, former partner of Paul, and Howard's fiancé. She seamlessly maneuvers through these different relationships with a naturalness that is quite impressive. It is a challenge to make a farcical character believable, and Ms. Foulkes does it with ease. Her Roz brings humor and heart to this production as she learns to embrace her childhood while forging her own path.

DCP newcomer Huzaifa Malik plays Howard; Roz's current flame. Mr. Malik's Howard represents normal life, and his portrayal has an innocence and charm that are fun to watch. Jay Fletcher is the seemingly predictable and confident Richard who is trying to woo Charlotte away from her husband. On the surface, his intentions appear genuine but are they? Mr. Fletcher's lively Richard is a catalyst for many of the comedic and emotional moments in the story, providing laughter with a touch of tension. Madison Niness, as Eileen, has an effervescent energy that draws your attention with her first entrance. Ms. Niness effortlessly lights up the stage. She is one to watch, and I cannot wait to see what she does next!

Behind every fabulous production is a stellar creative team and this one does not disappoint! Director Deb Takes (who does double duty as a costume designer) and Assistant Director Elda Kulp (doing triple duty as a costume AND prop designer) have effortlessly guided their actors through several physically demanding scenes. The set design by Patrick Gallagher and lighting design by Geoff Yaroschak work together symbiotically to show off the fast-paced antics that take place thoughout the play. Special shout out to Darwin Zehr as a first-time board operator who wowed the audience with perfect execution. Finally, the dynamic duo of Michael Romito (Producer)

and Candi Remphrey (Stage Manager) put their admirable stamp on everything by ensuring that all the pieces of this production fit together expertly.

This play is a farce through and through, and it will keep you laughing. However, deeper themes include relationships, second chances and the balancing of family expectations with one's own hopes and dreams. This show has something for everyone, and the timing of these actors is spot-on.. Don't miss it! Remaining performances are March15th and 22nd at 7:30 PM, March 16th, 22nd and 23rd at 2 PM.
